California-based artist, Seren Moran, is no stranger to MamaProud.  She was interviewed last year and continues to travel and create.  She occasionally checks-in… recently writing a note that I’ve partially included below:

Well, I have now been in Brazil for almost 9 months, learned Portuguese and have painted a large series of Brazilian scenery.  I also had a couple solo art shows in galleries and museums here in Sao Paulo.  I am heading back to the States.

Developed by New York-based media artist Aaron Sherwood, ‘Firewall’ stems from a performance piece being developed as purring tiger (with Kiori Kawai) titled ‘Mizalu’, which will premiere in June 2013. During one scene in the performance dancers will press into the spandex with the audience facing the opposite side. ‘Mizalu’ is about death and experience of reality, so this membrane represents a plane that you can experience but never get through. As hard as you try to understand what’s in between life and death, you can never fully know.

New York-based creative Alissia Melka-Teichroew has taken her penmanship skills to another level with a series of ballpoint pen wallpaper designs as part of Rollout‘s artist series. Through various techniques, Melka-Teichroew has produced six different graphics – spanning straight lines to messy doodling to fill a space with striking artistic chaos.

In street-culture circles, Evan Roth is already a boldface name, with a résumé that includes collaborating with Jay-Z on a music video and creating a computerized analysis of graffiti motion.  He also helped found the Graffiti Research Lab, an artist group that has undertaken projects like tagging the Brooklyn Bridge with an (erasable) laser and tossing projectile LEDs onto city buildings.

Sebastian Errazuriz’s studio was paralyzed after the hurricane. Unable to work and tired of watching the horrible disaster unfold on the news, Errazuriz decided to design something to help raise much-needed relief funds. This idea occurred to him after seeing the water line marked on the walls of the flooded galleries in New York’s Chelsea art district.

I read somewhere that  the Swiffer‘s grip handle was a demand on the part of women to have the ability to lay the floor cleaner on the wall without worrying about it falling.

This lean-able umbrella by Cheol Woong Seo and Jae Hee Park reminds me of that product with its non-slip silicon pad so the umbrella can rest against a wall.

In my home we have a map that we use to get our bearings about where we are, where our close family is and where we’d like to go.  I realize that though my Kindergartner knows where she lives she has no clue where we live in relation to the rest of the world.  As she matures she’ll see the map and remember where she’s traveled to slowly get her bearings.

Seeing a labeled map and a super imaginative and simple map of watercolors could add a bit of creativity and reinforce the idea of knowing where you are.
