Sculpteo is a 3D printing company out of France with a new app that is garnering some attention. iOS users simply take a profile photo directly from the mobile device. After choosing from the collection of materials available (vases, mugs, and iPhone case) the profile image is incorporated on to the object and the user has a bit of design say-so before the item is shipped. The final product costs between $30 and $40 US dollars.
There are other 3D design and printing shops worldwide but this company is allowing everyone to access the technology as opposed to large firms. I’d love to give something like this to PapaProud for Valentine’s Day but I use Android. Hmp!
