Garbage and art come together in an ongoing project called Washed Up. In an effort to change the way that we consume and dump our waste, the photographic series is raising awareness so that we might take a look at our relationship with products and their packaging.
Alejandro Duran addresses trash dragged from shore to shore before it settles on the Mexican world heritage site of Sian Ka’an. In designed distribution Duran spreads found materials to sites in a way that ocean waves would wash up and disperse the materials.
The work reminds me of Waste Land by Vic Muniz, the Brazilian American artist who returned to Brazil, to photograph pickers of recyclables.
